Each brushstroke represents a moment in my life, capturing the emotions that have shaped me. Through the chaos of war, family challenges, and my mother’s illness, art became my sanctuary. This piece encapsulates my search for home amidst the disarray, drawing from the vibrant colors and forms that emerged from my travels. Inspiration The inspiration for "Arabic Layers" came from the rich cultural heritage of my homeland and the dynamic, contemporary environment I now find myself in. Geometric shapes and calligraphic forms symbolize the blending of tradition and modernity. I wanted this painting to be a celebration of both my roots and my new surroundings, evoking feelings of joy and contemplation. The colors I chose are a reflection of my emotional landscape, each hue resonating with a different facet of my journey. Process I work primarily with acrylics, a medium that allows me the flexibility to express my emotions quickly. The fast-drying nature of acrylics suits my need to capture fleeting feelings before they dissipate. In "Arabic Layers," I employed thick, textured strokes, layering each element to create depth. Each layer tells a story—representing a memory or an emotion I was processing at the time. This painting evolved over several weeks, with each phase revealing more about my internal landscape. Color Palette and Composition The color palette of bold reds, serene blues, and warm yellows in "Arabic Layers" was carefully chosen to convey a spectrum of emotions. The reds evoke passion and urgency, while the blues provide a sense of calm and contemplation. The yellows introduce warmth and optimism. The composition is dynamic, with angular lines leading the viewer's gaze across the canvas, inviting them to explore the layers and textures I’ve woven together. The contrasts in color and form reflect the dichotomy of my experiences—chaos and tranquility coexisting on the same canvas. The Story Behind the Art Closing Creating "Arabic Layers" has been a deeply personal journey, one that reflects my growth and evolution as an artist and a person. I invite you to experience this piece not just as a painting, but as a window into my world—a space where memories, emotions, and colors converge. Each glance can reveal something new, just as life often does, reminding us all of the beauty found in our individual narratives. Massa Mardini Artist and writer based in Barcelona.
